Will You Stand for Religious Freedom, June 8

Stand Up for Religious Freedom

Will you Stand Up for Religious Freedom, Friday, June 8, Noon. The federal government doesn’t have the right to order Churches and Christians to pay for services that violate their deeply held religious beliefs. Please participate in these rallies and collect signatures for the New ProLife Personhood Amendment Petition. The Nationwide Rally for Religious Freedom is being held in 140 cities Friday, June 8 at noon, local time, outside federal buildings, Congressional offices and historic sites across the country. The theme for the Rally is “Stand Up for Religious Freedom—Stop the HHS Mandate!” Florida cities include: Fort Lauderdale, Fort Pierce, Jacksonville, Miami, Naples, Ocala, Pensacola, Sarasota, St. Petersburg, Stuart, Vero Beach, and West Palm Beach.

Thousands of Americans of all faiths will be participating in these peaceful rallies, organized by the Pro-Life Action League and Citizens for a Pro-Life Society to oppose the new mandate from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) that requires all employers provide free contraceptives, sterilization and abortion-inducing drugs through their health plans, even in violation of their consciences.

The Nationwide Rally for Religious Freedom will be a peaceful, family-friendly, non-partisan, ecumenical event.

Please participate in these events.

Take Time to Honor This Memorial Day Weekend

This Memorial Day weekend, many will head to the beaches, join together with family and friends, or simply relaxing and enjoying their three day weekend, but this weekend has a purpose bigger than the beach, bigger than barbeques, bigger than three day weekends, and bigger than parties and get-togethers. This weekend is set aside to remember those who have sacrificed much, especially those who have given all, even their very lives, so that you and I and generations before and after us can enjoy the freedom they enjoy. Moreover, the blood freely given by our military forces has not only bought and paid for our freedom in America but also the freedom and security of many other countries and peoples across the world. This Memorial Day weekend, make sure that you take time to remember those who have given their lives so that you might enjoy freedom.

Take Time to Remember

Take Time to Remember

This weekend, there are several events memorializing those who have laid down their lives to secure the rights we enjoy. One event that I would highly encourage you to attend is the Take Time to Honor. Take Time to Honor is a display at Tradition with Crosses or Stars of David, dog tags, and American Flags to represent each soldier from South Florida who has died in battle. Some families have added pictures or mementos to the Crosses or Stars of David. The display also features the flags of the various armed forces along with a helicopter and other military vehicles. I was deeply moved when viewing the display. I’ve included a few pictures for you to see.

As we remember those who have given all, let us remember to pray for those presently serving our country. Pray for their protection and for God’s continued protection for our nation. Listen to my Sermon, Memorial Day, Is the Lord For Us or For Our Adversaries? Pastor Bryan Longworth, Covenant Tabernacle Church and my Sermon, Memorial Day, Calling Americans to Fight for America.

Will You Pray for America? National Day of Prayer

Cry Out to God on Behalf of The United States of America

Pray for Our Nation

Today is the National Day of Prayer. Our nation has a long heritage of turning back to God in a time of need. These times of need are usually precipitated by compromise and sin which leads to the judgment of God. Those times of judgment often bring us back to God, and coming back to God in turn brings His blessings.

In 2 Chronicles 7:13-14, we read, “When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (NKJV)

If there has ever been a time in America’s history where we need to turn back to God, this is the time! Will you join us in praying for our state and nation today? I urge you to cry out to God today and everyday for this nation that we love so dearly.

      • The National Day of Prayer Breakfast, Thursday, May 3 at PSL Community Center on Airoso Blvd and PSL Blvd., Port Saint Lucie, FL at 8:30-10:30 am will include prayers by Personhood FL Director Pastor Bryan Longworth and State Coordinator Brenda MacMenamin.
      • The National Day of Prayer Service at Morningside Church, 2180 SE Morningside Blvd. Port St. Lucie, FL at 6:30 pm will include prayer and personhood petitioning by Personhood Florida State Coordinator Brenda MacMemanmen. This prayer service will include a time for participants to cry out to God on behalf of our nation. See Morningside’s website for more information.
      • Other National Day of Prayer events are scheduled for the Treasure Coast and across Florida and the Nation. View National Day of Prayer Events in your area, and join us in pleading with God to send us revival lest we perish in our sin.

Will you pray for America? Will you pray for our state? Take our online poll.

It is Appointed Unto Man Once to Die, and Then the Judgment, Pastor Bryan Longworth, Covenant Tabernacle

With the passing of Whitney Houston, I think it is fitting to post a sermon I preached June 28, 2009 after the death of Micheal Jackson.  This sermon shows that no matter how famous, wealthy, talented, or popular a person is or isn’t, one thing is certain: we will all stand before God almighty and give an account for our lives. Here is the sermon:

This past week, we saw three legends, Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett, and Ed McMahon all went to meet their maker. All three had fame and made a lot of money in their lifetime, though two died deeply in debt. Yet all three share the same fate: they will stand before a Holy God and face judgment for their actions, thoughts, even secrets.

In Hebrews 9:27-28, we read “and as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.” Here we see that everyone, even the rich and famous, will die and face judgment.

Romans2:16 shows that God will not only judge our outward appearance and actions but also our secrets: “in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ…” You may be able to fool your friends, but you can’t fool God. He knows all things and will judge even your secrets.

In 2 Corinthians 5:10-11, the Apostle Paul warns: “we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. Knowing, therefore, the terror of the Lord, we persuade men…” We see here that we will be judged based on our works, whether good or bad and that this knowledge of a certain judgment and the terror of the Lord led the Apostle Paul to strongly persuade men to repent of their sins and call upon Jesus for Salvation.

In Romans 3, we find that there is none good, no, not one, and that we have all sinned and fallen short of God’s glory. Knowing that we are not good, have fallen short of His glory, and face a certain judgment of our actions, thoughts, and secret, we have reason to fear, yet thankfully God offers hope. Romans 3 goes on to show that God has provided forgiveness for our sins and extended a peace treaty to us through the blood of Jesus Christ. Isaiah 53 shows us that God is able to offer you this forgiveness because Jesus took the punishment for your sins upon himself when he died on the cross. With the blood that Jesus shed when crucified, your sins can be washed white as snow.

How do you receive this forgiveness? Ask! Romans 10 tells us “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” It really is that simple.

If you died today, right now, do you know where you will spend eternity? You can have assurance of salvation if you trust in Jesus as your Savior. Take a few moments, right now, to ask Him to forgive you of your sins and commit to live the rest of your life for Him.

Next, start reading the Bible, praying, and praising God, and find a Bible believing church to attend. If you live in Port Saint Lucie or Fort Pierce, you’re welcome at Covenant Tabernacle. For all others, visit our website to watch our Sunday morning worship service streamed live from 10 AM – Noon and the recorded sermon on demand throughout the week.

Covenant Tabernacle World Outreach Center

Covenant Tabernacle

Covenant Tabernacle World Outreach Center in Port Saint Lucie Florida is a nondenominational, charismatic reformed church that believes the Pentecostal gifts of the Holy Spirit are available to believers today. We believe God has called us to worship, proclaim His word, and Disciple the nations in obedience to His commandments.

Vibrant Worship

At Covenant Tabernacle, we believe in worshiping God “with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:30 – NKJV) As a part of our worship, we blow the Shofar as blown in ancient Jewish worship.

Powerful, Bible based Preaching

We believe that the word of God is true (2 Samuel 7:28) and that “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV) We encourage all believers to develop a Biblical Worldview that shapes our view on not only our personal life but also our family, friends, loved ones, church, and civil government.

Discipleship

We believe in following Christ’s Great Commission to “‘go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.” (Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV) As such, we believe in discipling individuals, families, communities, cities, states, and nations in obedience to God’s word.

Election Day Sermon, Applying Biblical Principles to Government, Pastor Bryan Longworth, Covenant Tabernacle

Body Network Personhood Florida Bryan Longworth

Pastor Bryan Longworth

We read this morning from Psalm 33 about how Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord and that nations are not protected by the multitude of their army or the power of their military force but there protected based on the protection of God God’s sovereignty and that is most often based on whether that nation is obeying God’s word or violating God’s word.

In Proverbs 14:34 we read, “righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people” and in Proverbs 28:12, we learn, “When the righteous rejoice, there is great glory; But when the wicked arise, men hide themselves.” (Ref. vs. 28) (NKJV)

With something so important as the course of a nation, the course of a state, the course of a County, the course of a city, with something this large at stake, you would think that God’s people would show up. You would thing that God’s people would study to know the issues and would go out and exercise their right to vote. I believe that we have a responsibility to vote for godly men to rule over us. There are over 65 million evangelical Christians, yet in any given election only half or maybe less vote! In fact many Christians aren’t even registered to vote. It’s amazing when you look at the differences in some of the political races and the margin versus the amount of Christians not even registered to vote in those states. Here in the state of Florida, over 600,000 evangelical Christians are not registered to vote. That’s almost enough people to get the Florida ProLife Personhood Amendment on the ballot. We’re going to go to them so that we can register them so that they can sign the person had the Florida ProLife Personhood Amendment.

It is important that we realize it is important whether a nation obeys God or not. The people that we elect to rule over us hold important positions of power. We need to vote based on biblical issues based on their positions and we need to vote that way as opposed to voting for our pocketbook which sometimes happens.

Christians did come out strongly in 2008 but they voted for what they thought was hope and change a boy we sure have gotten some change, but we need some hope, and we actually need more change to return back to the founding principles

William Penn said, “Governments, like clocks, go from the motion men give them; and as governments are made and moved by men, so by them they are ruined too. Wherefore governments rather depend upon men than men upon governments. Let men be good and the government cannot be bad. . . . But if men be bad, let the government be never so good, they will endeavor to warp and spoil it to their turn. . . .[T]hough good laws do well, good men do better; for good laws may want [lack] good men and be abolished or invaded by ill men; but good men will never want good laws nor suffer [allow] ill ones.”

[William Penn quoted from: Thomas Clarkson, Memoirs of the Private and Public Life of William Penn (London: Richard Taylor and Co., 1813) Vol. I, p.303.]

Matthias Burnett instructed his congregation, “Consider well the important trust . . . which God . . . [has] put into your hands. . . . To God and posterity you are accountable for [your rights and your rulers]. . . . Let not your children have reason to curse you for giving up those rights and prostrating those institutions which your fathers delivered to you. . . . [L]ook well to the characters and qualifications of those you elect and raise to office and places of trust. . . . Think not that your interests will be safe in the hands of the weak and ignorant; or faithfully managed by the impious, the dissolute and the immoral. Think not that men who acknowledge not the providence of God nor regard His laws will be uncorrupt in office, firm in defense of the righteous cause against the oppressor, or resolutly oppose the torrent of iniquity. . . . Watch over your liberties and privileges – civil and religious – with a careful eye.”

[Matthias Burnett, Pastor of the First Baptist Church in Norwalk, An Election Sermon, Preached at Hartford, on the Day of the Anniversary Election, May 12, 1803 (Hartford: Printed by Hudson & Goodwin, 1803), pp. 27-28.]

Charles Finney warned, “[T]he time has come that Christians must vote for honest men and take consistent ground in politics or the Lord will curse them. . . . Christians have been exceedingly guilty in this matter. But the time has come when they must act differently. . . . Christians seem to act as if they thought God did not see what they do in politics. But I tell you He does see it – and He will bless or curse this nation according to the course they [Christians] take [in politics].”

[Charles G. Finney, Lectures on Revivals of Religion (New York: Fleming H. Revell Company, 1868), Lecture XV, pp. 281-282.]

As we look at this election season and as we look at the presidential preference primary that is coming up for the Republican Party this Tuesday, if you are registered Republican and haven’t voted yet, I encourage you to go out and vote and let your voice be heard. We’re going to look at some of biblical issues surrounding this campaign and look at the various candidates and see how they match up to God’s word , the Bible, because we do have a responsibility to vote for men that would uphold righteousness. We’re going to examine where the candidates stand on key issues such as: whether the candidates fear God and are just, whether they will defend the sanctity of human life, whether they will defend traditional marriage and the family, and whether they support limited or expansive government.

As Christians, we have an obligation to vote for godly men to represent us; however, electing the right man as president will not redeem America. To turn things around, we need to turn back to God with all of our heart, all or our soul, all of our mind, and all of our strength. We need to look into the perfect law of liberty (the Bible), examine our lives, families, churches, cities, states, and nation in light of God’s word, and where needed, we need to amend our ways. We need to humble ourselves, and pray, seek His face, and turn from our wicked way so that our God can hear from heaven, forgive our sins, and heal our land. (2 Chronicles 7:13-14.)

Speaker Newt Gingrich and Senator Rick Santorum are confirmed to participate in Florida Awake! Congressman Ron Paul regretfully declined, as he is not scheduled to be campaigning in Florida at that time. The event is already sold out, with over 1800 tickets reserved.

South Carolina ProLife Presidential Forum Video and Quotes

During last week’s standing room only ProLife Presidential Forum in South Carolina, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich criticized former Governor Romney’s switch in positions, stating: “Gov. Romney also, after becoming pro-life, passed Romneycare with taxpayer funded abortions…his administration approved paying for an abortion clinic for Planned Parenthood with state funds and he appointed pro-abortion and pro-gay marriage judges to the court. So in terms of who’s likely to change Washington, I would say that his track record has not only not changed but is in the opposite direction.”

Former Senator Rick Santorum expressed the seriousness of the pro-life issue: “We need to make sure that we have someone who is unabashedly—not just pro-life—but unabashedly a fighter for life,” he said. “We are what we allow our society to do,” he said. “And if we allow our society to prey upon innocent human life, we are complicit with it.”

Congressman Ron Paul appeared via satellite feed after returning to Washington D.C. for a vote, and spoke on several issues including defunding Planned Parenthood and the importance of not relying solely on legislation to end abortion: “We cannot change the people’s morality by writing more laws.”

Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins Endorses the Florida ProLife Personhood Amendment

Tony Perkins, Family Research Council

Tony Perkins

Personhood Florida received a major endorsement this week from Family Research Council’s Tony Perkins. In his endorsement, Perkins said, “I applaud the good folks of Florida for challenging the culture of death and championing life at all stages. The Florida ProLife Personhood Amendment is a reflection of a growing pro-life sentiment across the country and points toward a post-Roe era. I support the petition drive for this amendment and look forward to the day it can go before the voters in Florida.”

This endorsement comes after Personhood FL adopted personhood amendment ballot language proposed by the Family Research Council. The new petition language has been designed by a think tank of prolife personhood attorneys and satisfies 11 conditions needed to unite prolife ministries. Adapting this language enables all states to come into unity anticipating and facilitating a federal prolife personhood amendment.

Personhood FL Directory Pastor Bryan Longworth praised the endorsement, “For a long time, we have sought the endorsement of Tony Perkins. Because of their consistent stand for Biblical values, Tony Perkins and the Family Research Council have developed a large network of pastors and churches who stand boldly for the sanctity of human life, traditional marriage, and other key issues. With this endorsement, Personhood Florida will have credibility when encouraging churches and pastors to collect signatures for the new Florida ProLife Personhood Amendment Petition. Thank you Tony Perkins and the Family Research Council for standing boldly to defend innocent human life.”

Since 1983, Family Research Council (FRC) has advanced faith, family, and freedom in public policy and public opinion. FRC’s team of seasoned experts promotes these core values through policy research, public education on Capitol Hill and in the media, and grassroots mobilization. MRC reviews legislation, meets with policymakers, publishes books and pamphlets, builds coalitions, testifies before Congress, and maintains a powerful presence in print and broadcast media. Through their outreach to pastors, FRC equips churches to transform the culture.

Tony Perkins and FRC have led the way in defending religious freedom in the public square, protecting the unborn and their mothers, defending and strengthening one man/one woman marriage, and promoting pro-family public policy.

Because of a bill passed by the FL Legislature last year that changed the shelf life of the petition signatures from 4 years to 2 years, Personhood Florida launched a new two year petitioning effort beginning January 2012. If you signed the previous Florida Personhood Amendment, you will need to sign the new Florida ProLife Personhood Amendment Petition. (Please sign the new petition NOW!) If you helped petition for the old petition, thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You helped us find over 20,000 prolife Floridians! Please help us contact churches and pastors in your county between now and January to ask them to petition for personhood Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, January 22, 2012.

To launch this new petition, we need your help! Will you join us and help us get the word out? We have specific strategy and we need Christians to pray, volunteer, and donate. Register today for our next conference call to learn how to contact every church, every pastor in your county
