Sermon, 2012 – The End of an Error! Pastor Bryan Longworth, Covenant Tabernacle

You’ve probably seen the bumper sticker that reads: 2012: The end of an error. It’s probably on the car of a Republican who wants to see the end of the Obama administration.

2012 is a new year, and with a new year, we look for change. We look for the new year to be better than the previous year.

Certainly, we have been in some tough economic times in this country. These times have led many to ask, “How’s that hope and change working for you?” Certainly for a lot of people, not as well as they had hoped.

I can tell you that I’m thankful that we still have customers who call our computer store to have us come out to their house or business to work on their computers. I’m thankful that we still have customers who bring their computers to us to fix, but not as many or as often as before. And since Standard & Poor’s credit downgrade of the United States, we have had some of the slowest months we’ve ever had. These times require us to make changes so that we can survive and stay viable to continue to provide good quality goods and services to our customers.

As we look upon our nation and the state of affairs of our nation and as we look particularly at the presidency of the United States, we have the opportunity to re-elect the same president or to elect a new president, and on January 3, we have the first Republican caucus in Iowa. January 3rd is also the deadline to register as a Republican to vote in the Florida Republican Presidential Preference Primary January 31, and it is important that Christians vote and vote according to Biblical values.

We need to realize when we think about all of this that God is in control. He is sovereign. He does rule “in the kingdom of men, gives it to whomever He will, and sets over it the lowest of men.

What the sermon, 2012 – The End of an Error!

OPENING PASSAGE — Psalm 32 – <<A Psalm of David. A Contemplation.>> “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit. When I kept silent, my bones grew old Through my groaning all the day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was turned into the drought of summer. Selah I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD,” And You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You In a time when You may be found; Surely in a flood of great waters They shall not come near him. You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Selah I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye. Do not be like the horse or like the mule, Which have no understanding, Which must be harnessed with bit and bridle, Else they will not come near you. Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he who trusts in the LORD, mercy shall surround him. Be glad in the LORD and rejoice, you righteous; And shout for joy, all you upright in heart!” (NKJV)

God Rules Over the Lowest of Men

Daniel 4:17 – “This decision is by the decree of the watchers, And the sentence by the word of the holy ones, In order that the living may know That the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, Gives it to whomever He will, And sets over it the lowest of men.” (NKJV)

Daniel 4:25 – “They shall drive you from men, your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make you eat grass like oxen. They shall wet you with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over you, till you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.” (NKJV)

Proverbs 21:1 – “The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, Like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes.” (NKJV)

God Delivers Nations Who Forsake Him Over to Cruel Oppressors!

Judges 2:10-15, 3:7-8, 12-14.

God Delivers Nations When They Turn Back to Him!

Judges 3:9-11, 15-31.

Judges Pattern

Obedience, Blessing, Complacency, Disobedience, Bondage, Repentance, Deliverance

America is Fat and Well Fed and Has Forgotten God.

Deuteronomy 8 – “Every commandment which I command you today you must be careful to observe, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land of which the LORD swore to your fathers. And you shall remember that the LORD your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD. Your garments did not wear out on you, nor did your foot swell these forty years. You should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the LORD your God chastens you. Therefore you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him. For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and springs, that flow out of valleys and hills; a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive oil and honey; a land in which you will eat bread without scarcity, in which you will lack nothing; a land whose stones are iron and out of whose hills you can dig copper. When you have eaten and are full, then you shall bless the LORD your God for the good land which He has given you. Beware that you do not forget the LORD your God by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes which I command you today, lest-when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them; and when your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold are multiplied, and all that you have is multiplied; when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; who led you through that great and terrible wilderness, in which were fiery serpents and scorpions and thirsty land where there was no water; who brought water for you out of the flinty rock; who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do you good in the end- then you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’ And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Then it shall be, if you by any means forget the LORD your God, and follow other gods, and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish. As the nations which the LORD destroys before you, so you shall perish, because you would not be obedient to the voice of the LORD your God.” (NKJV)

True Deliverance for America Will Come When …

2 Chronicles 7:13 14 – “When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (NKJV)

Prepare for Calamity

Proverbs 27:23-27 – “Be diligent to know the state of your flocks, And attend to your herds; For riches are not forever, Nor does a crown endure to all generations. When the hay is removed, and the tender grass shows itself, And the herbs of the mountains are gathered in, The lambs will provide your clothing, And the goats the price of a field; You shall have enough goats’ milk for your food, For the food of your household, And the nourishment of your maidservants.” (NKJV)

Trust God to Provide

Genesis 26:1, 12 – “There was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham… Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the LORD blessed him.” (NKJV)

Vibrant Worship

At Covenant Tabernacle, we believe in worshiping God “with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:30 – NKJV) As a part of our worship, we blow the Shofar as blown in ancient Jewish worship.

Powerful, Bible based Preaching

We believe that the word of God is true (2 Samuel 7:28) and that “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV) We encourage all believers to develop a Biblical Worldview that shapes our view on not only our personal life but also our family, friends, loved ones, church, and civil government.

Discipleship

We believe in following Christ’s Great Commission to “‘go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ Amen.” (Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV) As such, we believe in discipling individuals, families, communities, cities, states, and nations in obedience to God’s word.

Sermon, What Did the Magi (Wise-Men) See? Who were they? Where Were They From? Pastor Charles (Chuck) Longworth, Covenant Tabernacle

Opening Passage : Psalm 19: 1 – 6, Matthew 2: 1 – 2

Matthew’s account of Christ’s birth :  Matthew 1: 18 – 25 & all of Chapter 2

1.  The New Testament terms, Magi and Magician, both come from the same root Greek word, but there is a clear distinction between the two. (See Daniel 5 : 3 – 8)

A. Magi were wise-men who likely were priests in their realm, and held in high regard by their leaders.

B. Magicians, and false Astrologers (occult ones, such as we have today, who prepare Horoscopes, etc.) pretend to be wise but are really foolish.(Romans 1: 22)

C. A strong warning against the occult is given in scripture. (Isaiah 47 : 13 – 14)

2. Evidently, the Magi (Wise-Men) who came looking for the Christ child, King of the Jews, were somewhat like our modern day Astronomers, but with a spiritual component. They believed that the reality of the Divine could be learned from Creation. (See Romans 1: 18 – 20)

A. Jon Bell, who is a scientist and a Christian, oversees the planetarium at Indian River State College. I quote from his college website:

“Who were the Wise Men, the Magi, and what did they know about the sky? Our best guess is that they were Zoroastrian astrologer-priests of Babylonia, which lay to the east of Judea. Two thousand years ago…the Magi may have witnessed a triple conjunction, three separate  passings of the planet Jupiter and the star Regulus, a significant sky event for them. Jupiter appears as a bright star that wanders against a background of constellations, caused by the combined motions of Jupiter and the earth as they orbit the sun. Regulus, in the constellation of Leo the Lion, was the signal star of the Babylonian king. Jupiter was the king planet, and its appearance near Regulus may have set the Magi on their course eastward toward Bethlehem to seek out the new king.”

Sermon, 12-18-11, What Kind of Nation Have We Become When We Value Possessions More Than Human Life, Pastor Bryan Longworth, Covenant Tabernacle

You may recall the video on the Internet of the little girl in China who wondered away from her mom and wondered into the road where she was ran over by a van. Since China is a police state with cameras everywhere, the event was caught on video. You can see the passenger of the van look out and see the girl before the van drives away. Multiple people passed by, saw the girl dying in the middle of the street, and just walked on by.

You see, there was a case in China not too long ago where a person was injured. Someone saw the injured person, had compassion on them, and took them to the hospital. The injured party recovered and then sued the good Samaritan claiming that he must have been the perpetrator. The judge agreed saying that the only reason someone would take an injured party to the hospital was if he felt guilty because he had done the crime.

How is it that an entire society has so little value for life that a judge would rule that the only reason someone would take an injured party to the hospital would be if he had committed the crime? No thought was given that it may just be that the person cared for the injured party much less the truth that we are created in God’s image, that we are endowed by our creator with certain unalienable rights.

Of course, those rights don’t exist in China. You see, China has a one child policy, and when a woman is pregnant and already has a child, China enforces this one child policy by forced abortions.

Because of this policy, China has a big problem. Every parent wants a boy to carry on the family name, so parents in China have ultrasounds prior when pregnant with their first child. If the child is a girl, they abort (kill) her. The result is that there are considerably more male children than female children. Who are these men going to marry?

This policy has had created a much bigger problem however. By systematically forcing parents to have their own children killed by abortion, China has devalued life to the point where neither its citizens nor its judges understand why anyone would attempt to save the life of an injured party unless they inflicted the wound. The evening of Thanksgiving started black Friday. Our family happened to be driving by Walmart around the time when black Friday was supposed to begin, so we decided to stop and see what deals they had.

We didn’t park in Walmart’s parking lot. It was completely full as was the parking lot to the south of Walmart. We parked in the parking lot to the north, the Golden Coral parking lot, which was almost full.

As we approached the store, we were surprised to find 14 squad cars in front of the store. I didn’t even know our city had 14 officers on duty at any given time, and here 14 were devoted to just one store on this one night. You see: customers got into fist fights earlier over the prize merchandise.

As we walked through the store, we saw several areas where hot merchandise sat, waiting to be released until the set time. Customers crowded around these piles of merchandise waiting for their chance at a bargain.

Looking at this reminded me of the scenes in the hiding place where the women rush on a pile of coats to grab one to keep them warm. The women ran and fought over something that they needed to save their life. In America, we have people with that same type of vigor, going for goods, going for possessions, going for toys, going for the latest electronic gadget, and yes, in America, there were shoppers who stepped over a dying man to get a great deal. The man was having a heart attack, but that didn’t stop shoppers. They simply stepped over him to preserve their place in line.

What kind of country have we become when life is so invaluable and when our focus is so much on material possessions and not on glorifying God, and when in this time economic uncertainty, in this time of need, in this time when we have a record number of foreclosures and people can’t pay their bills, we see more money spent on black Friday than any other Christmas ever? What kind of people have we become?

Watch the full sermon to hear how we need to seek to glorify God more than our possessions, restore the sanctity of human life, and restore fiscal responsibility. Mentioned in this sermon Abortion, the ProLife Personhood Movement, the Tea Party Movement, and Occupy Wall Street.

Sermon Notes:

OPENING PASSAGE — Psalm 139.

Glorify God and Enjoy Him Forever.

1 Corinthians 10:31 – “Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (NKJV)

Revelation 4:11 – “You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.” (NKJV)

Psalms 73:25-26 – “Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (NKJV)

Restore the Sanctity of Human Life

Genesis 1:26-27 – “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” (NKJV)

Psalms 139:13-16 – “For You formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well. My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed. And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.” (NKJV)

Genesis 9:5-6 – “Surely for your lifeblood I will demand a reckoning; from the hand of every beast I will require it, and from the hand of man. From the hand of every man’s brother I will require the life of man. “Whoever sheds man’s blood, By man his blood shall be shed; For in the image of God He made man.” (NKJV)

Restore Fiscal Responsibility

Proverbs 22:7 – “The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower is servant to the lender.” (NKJV)

Psalms 37:21 – “The wicked borrows and does not repay, But the righteous shows mercy and gives.” (NKJV)

Deuteronomy 15:1-6 – “At the end of every seven years you shall grant a release of debts. And this is the form of the release: Every creditor who has lent anything to his neighbor shall release it; he shall not require it of his neighbor or his brother, because it is called the LORD’S release. “Of a foreigner you may require it; but you shall give up your claim to what is owed by your brother, except when there may be no poor among you; for the LORD will greatly bless you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you to possess as an inheritance – only if you carefully obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe with care all these commandments which I command you today. For the LORD your God will bless you just as He promised you; you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow; you shall reign over many nations, but they shall not reign over you.” (NKJV)

Deuteronomy 28 – “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the LORD your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. “And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the LORD your God: “Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the country. “Blessed shall be the fruit of your body, the produce of your ground and the increase of your herds, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks. “Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. “Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out. “The LORD will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. “The LORD will command the blessing on you in your storehouses and in all to which you set your hand, and He will bless you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you. “The LORD will establish you as a holy people to Himself, just as He has sworn to you, if you keep the commandments of the LORD your God and walk in His ways. “Then all peoples of the earth shall see that you are called by the name of the LORD, and they shall be afraid of you. “And the LORD will grant you plenty of goods, in the fruit of your body, in the increase of your livestock, and in the produce of your ground, in the land of which the LORD swore to your fathers to give you. “The LORD will open to you His good treasure, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season, and to bless all the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. “And the LORD will make you the head and not the tail; you shall be above only, and not be beneath, if you heed the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you today, and are careful to observe them. “So you shall not turn aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right or the left, to go after other gods to serve them. “But it shall come to pass, if you do not obey the voice of the LORD your God, to observe carefully all His commandments and His statutes which I command you today, that all these curses will come upon you and overtake you: “Cursed shall you be in the city, and cursed shall you be in the country. “Cursed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. “Cursed shall be the fruit of your body and the produce of your land, the increase of your cattle and the offspring of your flocks. “Cursed shall you be when you come in, and cursed shall you be when you go out. “The LORD will send on you cursing, confusion, and rebuke in all that you set your hand to do, until you are destroyed and until you perish quickly, because of the wickedness of your doings in which you have forsaken Me. “The LORD will make the plague cling to you until He has consumed you from the land which you are going to possess. “The LORD will strike you with consumption, with fever, with inflammation, with severe burning fever, with the sword, with scorching, and with mildew; they shall pursue you until you perish. “And your heavens which are over your head shall be bronze, and the earth which is under you shall be iron. “The LORD will change the rain of your land to powder and dust; from the heaven it shall come down on you until you are destroyed. “The LORD will cause you to be defeated before your enemies; you shall go out one way against them and flee seven ways before them; and you shall become troublesome to all the kingdoms of the earth. “Your carcasses shall be food for all the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and no one shall frighten them away. “The LORD will strike you with the boils of Egypt, with tumors, with the scab, and with the itch, from which you cannot be healed. “The LORD will strike you with madness and blindness and confusion of heart. “And you shall grope at noonday, as a blind man gropes in darkness; you shall not prosper in your ways; you shall be only oppressed and plundered continually, and no one shall save you. “You shall betroth a wife, but another man shall lie with her; you shall build a house, but you shall not dwell in it; you shall plant a vineyard, but shall not gather its grapes. “Your ox shall be slaughtered before your eyes, but you shall not eat of it; your donkey shall be violently taken away from before you, and shall not be restored to you; your sheep shall be given to your enemies, and you shall have no one to rescue them. “Your sons and your daughters shall be given to another people, and your eyes shall look and fail with longing for them all day long; and there shall be no strength in your hand. “A nation whom you have not known shall eat the fruit of your land and the produce of your labor, and you shall be only oppressed and crushed continually. “So you shall be driven mad because of the sight which your eyes see. “The LORD will strike you in the knees and on the legs with severe boils which cannot be healed, and from the sole of your foot to the top of your head. “The LORD will bring you and the king whom you set over you to a nation which neither you nor your fathers have known, and there you shall serve other gods-wood and stone. “And you shall become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword among all nations where the LORD will drive you. “You shall carry much seed out to the field but gather little in, for the locust shall consume it. “You shall plant vineyards and tend them, but you shall neither drink of the wine nor gather the grapes; for the worms shall eat them. “You shall have olive trees throughout all your territory, but you shall not anoint yourself with the oil; for your olives shall drop off. “You shall beget sons and daughters, but they shall not be yours; for they shall go into captivity. “Locusts shall consume all your trees and the produce of your land. “The alien who is among you shall rise higher and higher above you, and you shall come down lower and lower. “He shall lend to you, but you shall not lend to him; he shall be the head, and you shall be the tail. “Moreover all these curses shall come upon you and pursue and overtake you, until you are destroyed, because you did not obey the voice of the LORD your God, to keep His commandments and His statutes which He commanded you. “And they shall be upon you for a sign and a wonder, and on your descendants forever. “Because you did not serve the LORD your God with joy and gladness of heart, for the abundance of everything, “therefore you shall serve your enemies, whom the LORD will send against you, in hunger, in thirst, in nakedness, and in need of everything; and He will put a yoke of iron on your neck until He has destroyed you. “The LORD will bring a nation against you from afar, from the end of the earth, as swift as the eagle flies, a nation whose language you will not understand, “a nation of fierce countenance, which does not respect the elderly nor show favor to the young. “And they shall eat the increase of your livestock and the produce of your land, until you are destroyed; they shall not leave you grain or new wine or oil, or the increase of your cattle or the offspring of your flocks, until they have destroyed you. “They shall besiege you at all your gates until your high and fortified walls, in which you trust, come down throughout all your land; and they shall besiege you at all your gates throughout all your land which the LORD your God has given you. “You shall eat the fruit of your own body, the flesh of your sons and your daughters whom the LORD your God has given you, in the siege and desperate straits in which your enemy shall distress you. “The sensitive and very refined man among you will be hostile toward his brother, toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the rest of his children whom he leaves behind, “so that he will not give any of them the flesh of his children whom he will eat, because he has nothing left in the siege and desperate straits in which your enemy shall distress you at all your gates. “The tender and delicate woman among you, who would not venture to set the sole of her foot on the ground because of her delicateness and sensitivity, will refuse to the husband of her bosom, and to her son and her daughter, “her placenta which comes out from between her feet and her children whom she bears; for she will eat them secretly for lack of everything in the siege and desperate straits in which your enemy shall distress you at all your gates. “If you do not carefully observe all the words of this law that are written in this book, that you may fear this glorious and awesome name, THE LORD YOUR GOD, “then the LORD will bring upon you and your descendants extraordinary plagues-great and prolonged plagues-and serious and prolonged sicknesses. “Moreover He will bring back on you all the diseases of Egypt, of which you were afraid, and they shall cling to you. “Also every sickness and every plague, which is not written in this Book of the Law, will the LORD bring upon you until you are destroyed. “You shall be left few in number, whereas you were as the stars of heaven in multitude, because you would not obey the voice of the LORD your God. “And it shall be, that just as the LORD rejoiced over you to do you good and multiply you, so the LORD will rejoice over you to destroy you and bring you to nothing; and you shall be plucked from off the land which you go to possess. “Then the LORD will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other, and there you shall serve other gods, which neither you nor your fathers have known-wood and stone. “And among those nations you shall find no rest, nor shall the sole of your foot have a resting place; but there the LORD will give you a trembling heart, failing eyes, and anguish of soul. “Your life shall hang in doubt before you; you shall fear day and night, and have no assurance of life. “In the morning you shall say, ‘Oh, that it were evening!’ And at evening you shall say, ‘Oh, that it were morning!’ because of the fear which terrifies your heart, and because of the sight which your eyes see. “And the LORD will take you back to Egypt in ships, by the way of which I said to you, ‘You shall never see it again.’ And there you shall be offered for sale to your enemies as male and female slaves, but no one will buy you.” (NKJV)

Sermon, 12-18-11, What Kind of Nation Have We Become When We Value Possessions More Than Human Life, Pastor Bryan Longworth, Covenant Tabernacle

Sermon, Angels, Ministering Spirits, Pastor Chuck Longworth, Covenant Tabernacle

The Bible has much to say about Angels.  Most books in scripture contain references to angelic visitations or ministry. Angels minister on behalf of believers.  We are not to worship them or pray to them.  We are not to be afraid of angels. Angels announced the birth of Christ. They ministered to Jesus after His temptation. An angel released the Apostle Peter from prison when the early church was praying.

There is good reason to believe that angels probably do sing, even though scripture does  not say yea or nay. Watch the full sermon video.

Sermon Notes:

Opening Passage : Psalm 91

1. The Bible mentions Archangels in at least two verses: I Thess 4: 16 & Jude 9.

a. The three archangels are:

1) Gabriel – a messenger angel (See Dan 9: 20 – 23 & Luke 1: 26 – 28)

2) Michael – a warring angel (See Dan 10: 13 & Luke 1: 26 – 28)

3) Lucifer – a worshiping angel- a covering cherub (Ezek 28: 14 – 16)

*( 1 & 2 remain archangels. Lucifer was expelled from heaven and is now known as Satan or the Devil- See Luke 10: 18)

2. Bible references to angels are too numerous to cover in one or two messages. If one reads the Bible through, the ministry of God’s angels is a recurrent theme.

3. Hebrews 1: 14, in reference to angels, says: “Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?”

4. We hear of people today who brag about what angels do or have done for them, who apparently have no relationship with God through Jesus Christ. This is either deception or they are in a precarious position. Scripture warn against worshiping angels. (Col. 2: 18 – 19) When angels appeared to people in Bible times, the people were encouraged to not be afraid and not to worship the angel(s).

5. If, in fact, angels are appointed by God to minister on behalf of the “heirs of salvation” that is, we who are God’s children, why aren’t we experiencing a greater or more frequent manifestation of angels?

6. Among others, angels appeared to: Abraham, Jacob, Joshua, Gideon, Manoah-father-to-be-of Samson, Elijah, Elisha and his servant, Isaiah, Daniel, Zechariah- the prophet, Zacharias- father of John the baptist, Mary, Joseph, the Shepherds, the Wise Men, Peter, Phiip, Paul, John the Apostle, etc. (I Kings 19: 3-8, Matt 4: 11)

7. It is consistent with scripture that when we love God and speak and act on His word, angels minister on our behalf and help to bring answers to prayer.

Sermon, Why We Must End Abortion NOW – And Who Is My Neighbor? Pastor Bryan Longworth, Covenant Tabernacle.

Sermon, 12/4/11, Why The Herman Cain Express Suffered a Massive Train Wreck, Character Does Count! Bryan Longworth, Covenant Tabernacle

Sermon

I’m sure you’ve heard the news by now: The Herman Cain Express has suffered a severe train wreck. Why is it that Cain’s presidential campaign ended in disgrace. It is because character does count, especially if you’re a Republican. You see, there is a double standard in the media, and we have witnessed this time and time again. Bill Clinton’s multiple affairs prior to running for the presidency were totally ignored b y the mainstream media when Clinton ran for president. Our own St Lucie County School Board Member Kathryn Hensley said, “I just think women find him sexy.” Can you Imagine a sitting school board member saying something like that and getting away with it! Unbelievable!

John Edwards affair was ignored by the mainstream media even after pictures of his baby showed up in the tabloids. The media gave Jesse Jackson Sr a pass on his affair, and consider what Al Sharpton had to say about Tiger Woods affair.

“‘Why is it that a man who calls himself black can’t bring himself to cheat on his wife with a black woman?’ said Sharpton, speaking to a group of supporters in Harlem. ‘What does it say to young black girls everywhere when you pass them over? Shame on you, Tiger Woods. What would your daddy say?'”

“Sharpton, who has long championed taking black women as mistresses, said that today’s black athletes need to stop neglecting black women when it comes to extramarital affairs, and should follow the examples of positive black role models such as Jesse Jackson and Martin Luther King, Jr., both of whom cheated on their wives with black women. Sharpton also stressed that cheating with African-American women would help the black community financially by giving black girls the chance to sell their stories to tabloids and gossip magazines.”

“Added Sharpton, ‘I’m not asking you to not cheat on your wives, I’m just asking you to give back to your own community.'”

No thought was give to the idea that you shouldn’t do this in the first place because God has called us to be faithful to our spouses.

When a Republican is running however, these issues are important to the media. In one day alone, the news media ran 50 televised reports on the allegations facing Herman Cain. Certainly, these issues should be important to us regardless of which party the candidate represents because character does count.

The initial allegations against Cain did appear as merely smear tactics by the Obama campaign. All of the accusers had come from Chicago. The women who pulled Cains employment records was connected to the Obama campaign and to David Axelrod. One accuser worked for the Obama administration. Another lived in the same apartment building as David Axelrod and admitted to knowing him.

The most recent allegations are troubling though. While we don’t know what really happened, we do know that Cain has admitted to knowing the woman and helping her financially without his wife’s knowledge, but what is most troubling is the statement given by Cain’s attorney the day of the initial press conference. Here’s what he had to say,

“This is not an accusation of harassment in the workplace – this is not an accusation of an assault – which are subject matters of legitimate inquiry to a political candidate.”

“Rather, this appears to be an accusation of private, alleged consensual conduct between adults – a subject matter which is not a proper subject of inquiry by the media or the public. No individual, whether a private citizen, a candidate for public office or a public official, should be questioned about his or her private sexual life. The public’s right to know and the media’s right to report has boundaries and most certainly those boundaries end outside of one’s bedroom door.”

Sadly, Mr. Cain’s attorney fails to realize that character does count. God directs us to “select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.” Exodus 18:21. (This passage by the way is where our founding fathers got the idea of state, local, and federal government.) We have a duty before God to choose men who fear God, keep his commandments, and are not given to covetousness. Certainly, character does count!

ProLife Personhood Petitioning at Care Net's Annual Conference

ProLife Petition!

Have you heard the news? Personhood FL has launched a new prolife petition called the Florida ProLife Personhood Amendment. Personhood FL will collect petition signatures from registered Florida voters January 2012 – December 2013. We need your help to contact every church, every pastor in your county!

Because of a bill passed by the FL Legislature this year that changed the shelf life of the petition signatures from 4 years to 2 years, we are launching a new two year petitioning effort beginning January 2012. We have taken this opportunity to launch the new Florida ProLife Personhood Amendment based on language endorsed by Family Research Council and the American Family Association. The new petition language has been designed by a think tank of prolife personhood attorneys and satisfies 11 conditions needed to unite pro-life ministries. Adapting this language enables all states to come into unity anticipating and facilitating a federal prolife personhood amendment.

If you signed the previous Florida Personhood Amendment, you will need to sign the new Florida ProLife Personhood Amendment Petition! (Please sign the new petition in January.) If you helped petition for the old petition, thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You helped us find over 20,000 prolife Floridians! Please help us contact churches and pastors in your county between now and January to ask them to petition for personhood Sanctity of Human Life Sunday, January 22, 2012.

To launch this new petition, we need your help! Will you join us and help us get the word out? We have specific strategy and we need Christians to pray, volunteer, and donate. Register today for tomorrow night’s conference call to learn how to contact every church, every pastor in your county. Sign up for the call by clicking this link and filling out the form at the bottom of the page.

We will not give up! We Will End Abortion! Will You Help?

Yes on 26 Life Begins as Fertilization Amendment

Vote for Life Yes on 26

With the loss of Mississippi’s Initiative 26, many in the prolife movement and the media have asked what is our strategy here in Florida. They are quick to point out that Mississippi is more prolife than Florida and ask how we think we can win if a similar initiative can’t even pass in Mississippi.

My first response is, what makes you think Personhood can’t pass in Mississippi? Just because it didn’t pass doesn’t mean that it can’t pass. I believe that it not only can pass but will pass because I believe that the people of Mississippi are prolife and will see past the lies of Planned Parenthood and the confusion of “prolife” Governor Haley Barbour and vote to end abortion and protect all innocent human life!

When we started Personhood FL, we knew that the percentage of Floridians who are prolife without exception was much lower than the 60% needed to pass the FL ProLife Personhood Amendment; however, we believe that every time we go out, every time we petition for personhood, every time we present the humanity of the preborn child, every time we say that you shouldn’t starve and dehydrate someone simply because they’re elderly or disabled, we make the case for life and move that percentage closer and closer to 60%.

Watch More ProLife Sermons Here

You see Personhood is the William Wilberforce model. William Wilberforce presented a bill to abolish slavery. It didn’t pass, so he presented his bill again the next year, and the next year, and the next year, until the people of England viewed slavery as abhorrent, and together with abolitionists in America, slavery ended for the most part world wide.

Where do you go to buy a good slave today? It wasn’t too long ago that you could go to nearly any town square and buy a slave. Today however virtually all nations view slavery as abhorrent, and one day people will look back on abortion as abhorrent. One day people will look back on the crimes committed to the preborn in the womb today and wonder why did they ever let that happen?

Personhood Florida will press on to victory! We will continue on! We will not give up! We are living in a time where we have the opportunity to participate in ending abortion and protecting every innocent human life in Florida, the United States of America, and the world! We desperately need to pass prolife personhood amendments in every state in the America, and ultimately, we need a federal personhood amendment.

We must move quickly, however, because we have now shed the blood of over 55,000,000 preborn children and wounded millions of women through abortion. According to the Bible, when innocent blood is shed, it cries out from the ground for vengeance and will only be silenced when the murderer is legally tried and executed. (In the case of abortion, this would result in prosecutors trying abortionists for crimes against humanity and seeking the death penalty upon conviction.) The scariest accounts in the Bible is found in looking at how God dealt with the Manasseh’s sin. The Bible tells us in 2 Kings 21:16, “Moreover Manasseh shed very much innocent blood, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another…” (NKJV) Then in 2 Kings 24:2-4, we see that God raised up adversaries to destroy Judah “because of the innocent blood that he had shed; for he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, which the LORD would not pardon.” In America, we have shed the blood of close to 20% of our population. We have to wonder: how many more babies can we kill in America before God wipes us of the map? We must humble ourselves before God, pray, seek his face, and turn from our wicked ways so that God can hear from heaven, forgive our sins, and heal our land. We must end abortion and protect all innocent human life while we still have a window of grace.

The good news is that leading up to and following the Mississippi vote, Personhood FL has linked up with new volunteers who are willing to help make the case for life in their county! We currently are working on a plan to contact every church in Florida between now and the end of the year so that the churches can present the Florida ProLife Personhood Petition to their parishioners in January, but we need your help to accomplish this. Will you help us take the message of life to every church, every pastor in your county? Please join us for a conference call/training tomorrow (Tuesday, November 15 from 9 – 10 PM) where we’ll go over how to contact the churches and pastors and the new FL ProLife Personhood Petition. This call will cover key strategies for ending abortion and protecting all innocent human life. Register to join us on the call here.

56:14 – End – Blowing of the Shofar

The sermon above was preached by Pastor Chuck Longworth, Pastor Bryan Longworth, and Jeremy Longworth Sunday, September 16, 2001 at Covenant Tabernacle Church in White City, FL. If you recall the time, you recall that America was in shock from the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the failed attack on the White House. This was the Sunday when all football and baseball games were postponed. Churches were filled. Pastors called for repentance. Americans prayed. Democrats and Republicans even sang God Bless America together, but was the 911 attacks a sign that God’s blessings and protection had been lifted from America? If so, what it necessary to return God’s blessing, protection, and favor to America? These questions were explored from the Bible by Pastor Chuck Longworth, Pastor Bryan Longworth, and Jeremy Longworth.

Notes from Unless the Lord Guard the City, Pastor Bryan Longworth

The Bible tells us in Psalm 27:1 “Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain. (NKJV) The United States of America has enjoyed the greatest of God’s blessing and protection over the years. The Lord has guarded our cities and our country for attacks from within and without, yet the Lord wasn’t guarding our city 911! And many will ask why was He not guarding our city? I will say that it is because we as a nation have left His commandments. We as a nation have departed from the principles, the moral foundation that this nation was founded upon. Many, even those in the church, have thought that America is so great that God couldn’t possibly fulfill His purpose in this earth without America. The Israelites once thought that. After, 30 or 40, even 70 years of captivity for some of them, they realized that God can accomplish His purpose without His chosen people, and we’re not even His chosen people. Now the church is. Christians are, but God hasn’t come down and said, “America is my chosen nation.” Now our forefathers did make a covenant with God, and that covenant does bring blessings when we obey God’s commandments and it brings curses when we disobey His commandments. And we have disobeyed the commandments of God, and God promises in His word to judge any nation that violates His precepts. I warned about this in 1989 or 1990, when I preached a sermon at Covenant Tabernacle warning that this nation was going to experience the judgment of God if we didn’t turn and repent.

Sadly, we haven’t turned, until now. 911 was a wakeup call for America to turn back to God. It was a call for His church to fall on our faces and cry of on behalf of this nation. Oh God, May This nation once again serve you. May this nation once again honor you. May this nation once again fear your name, and obey your commandments. May we once again have pastors and political leaders who would call this nation to repent before the King of kings and Lord of lords, Jesus Christ. May we turn to God and serve Him with all of our hear, all of our soul, all of our strength, with our whole being.

Opening Passage – Psalm 127

A Song of Ascents. Of Solomon. Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, To sit up late, To eat the bread of sorrows; For so He gives His beloved sleep. Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; They shall not be ashamed, But shall speak with their enemies in the gate. (NKJV)

Call to a Solemn Assembly

911 was a Wakeup call

Prayer but are they praying prayers of repentance???

Does this attack mean that we are in the end times?

Will God bless us because so many people are praying? What about non-Christians who pray?

Where was God in all of this?

Does a nation need to be a Christian nation to avoid God’s judgment?

Psalm 20:7 – “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we will remember the name of the LORD our God.” (NKJV)

Psalm 33:1-22 – Rejoice in the LORD, O you righteous! For praise from the upright is beautiful. Praise the LORD with the harp; Make melody to Him with an instrument of ten strings. Sing to Him a new song; Play skillfully with a shout of joy. For the word of the LORD is right, And all His work is done in truth. He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. By the word of the LORD the heavens were made, And all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap; He lays up the deep in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the LORD; Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him. For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. The LORD brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect. The counsel of the LORD stands forever, The plans of His heart to all generations. Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, The people He has chosen as His own inheritance. The LORD looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men. From the place of His dwelling He looks on all the inhabitants of the earth; He fashions their hearts individually; He considers all their works. No king is saved by the multitude of an army; A mighty man is not delivered by great strength. A horse is a vain hope for safety; Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength. Behold, the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, On those who hope in His mercy, To deliver their soul from death, And to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the LORD; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, Because we have trusted in His holy name. Let Your mercy, O LORD, be upon us, Just as we hope in You. (NKJV)

Leviticus 18:24-30 – “Do not defile yourselves with any of these things; for by all these the nations are defiled, which I am casting out before you. For the land is defiled; therefore I visit the punishment of its iniquity upon it, and the land vomits out its inhabitants. You shall therefore keep My statutes and My judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations, either any of your own nation or any stranger who dwells among you (for all these abominations the men of the land have done, who were before you, and thus the land is defiled), lest the land vomit you out also when you defile it, as it vomited out the nations that were before you. For whoever commits any of these abominations, the persons who commit them shall be cut off from among their people. Therefore you shall keep My ordinance, so that you do not commit any of these abominable customs which were committed before you, and that you do not defile yourselves by them: I am the LORD your God. (NKJV)

Covenant Tabernacle World Outreach Center

Covenant Tabernacle

Covenant Tabernacle World Outreach Center in Port Saint Lucie Florida is a nondenominational, charismatic reformed church that believes the Pentecostal gifts of the Holy Spirit are available to believers today. We believe God has called us to worship, proclaim His word, and Disciple the nations in obedience to His commandments.
